Ericsson Australia · Melbourne
Ericsson graduate rotation in TV & Media / User Experience & Software Architecture — front-end development, API testing and UX design, including an internal BI tool that went global.
Overview
Jenks joined Ericsson's graduate program in February 2015 and rotated through two roles in the TV & Media business unit (User Experience & Software Architecture): web application developer, then UX designer.
What Jenks did
- Front-end development with JavaScript (Ericsson's YMER framework), jQuery, AJAX, JSON, JSP, PHP, HTML5 and CSS3; worked with a pair programmer across agile sprints.
- Back-end testing of RESTful and SOAP services with SOAP UI, Wireshark, curl and Postman; network infrastructure testing.
- Built corporate internal web tools (BI) and SharePoint front ends integrated with enterprise tools.
- UX research with end users, use-case workshops, service design workshops, UI design for presales, high-fidelity mobile app prototypes and mobile app requirement specifications.
Achievements
- Combined technical and human-centred design skills to generate ideas for a client project and a presales engagement.
- An internal BI tool he developed was turned into a global tool.
Why it matters to employers
Early proof that Jenks bridges engineering and users: he can build the thing, test the APIs and run the design workshop. That mix later made him effective in developer experience and presales.
